Dear Friends:

With Summer on its “last leg”, I am happy to see it go! The extreme heat and lightning strikes have worn out their welcome. (I hate to admit it, but as a lifelong Southern girl, I have gotten “soft”. My memory goes back to times of no air conditioning in homes, cars, or businesses and yet we enjoyed life. Also we did not have sensitive electronic equipment affected by lightning. The worst effect of lightning was it burned down your house!)

Thanks to those who have sent responses to the May-June Fishing News with your encouragement. Your kind thoughts are uplifting and give me the “kick” to carry on! I admit that I am having some “lonely” periods as the fourth anniversary of Fisher-Mund’s homegoing comes up on September 6. I miss my leader and struggle to care for things that would have been taken care of by him.

The car recently had a “warning” light come on to see the dealer. I was on the way to church, and did not know if it was urgent. I texted my son-in-law, who was on vacation, to see if I was about to be stranded on the side of the road. He assured me it was ok and to see the dealer as soon as I could. It turned out to be a recall that needed something replaced.

Then I have been having an ongoing problem with my oven since November 2024. Every major part has been replaced and still it would not reach and maintain proper temperature. I was looking at ads for used stoves, but (as some preachers we have known would say) I could not get the “liberty” to buy one. I even looked at new stoves and checked their recommendations, only to find comments that they did not maintain proper baking temperatures.

As a last resort I picked up the stove manual and began to read about my problem, comparing the schematic to the repairs that had been done. I found that the fan must be on at all times in convection bake mode. In checking to see if that was working, I found the fan was not turning. Then I forced the fan to turn, checked it out again, and found that it came on properly and the set temperature was reached. I have baked several times since then and cooked a roast and it has performed properly each time. Is it fixed? Who knows, but I thank the Lord it is working for now!

Now, to more important matters.

Bro. Jeph and Fishers of Men Baptist Church and Bible School in San Fernando City, La Union, Philippines had a strong typhoon (hurricane), Typhoon Emong, hit them on July 25. To those of you who have endured the same here in the USA, I do not have to go into detail, but for those of you who have never experienced that, I will give a few highlights.

Waves at the docks were 14 meters (that is 45.9 feet). Since the church/school building was so strongly built, it was not destroyed but suffered some roof damage and large windows in the auditorium blew out, making it “like a swimming pool”.

Electricity was out in the whole area with lines tangled like spaghetti. While church members suffered damage, some severely, Jeph has not mentioned any loss of life. It will take many weeks yet before things will seem “normal” to them. They carry on, using a generator to have services.

Bro. Lemon in Bangladesh maintains a busy schedule with evangelizing in the many river areas, teaching in the Bible school, and working on completing the third floor of the homebase building (as well as working on his dissertation). In early August he had texted that he, Kabita (his wife), and his son all had a seasonal fever. Pray for their speedy recovery. There is still political unrest in the country that will continue until their election which may be in January-February 2026.

Our national pastor in India has graduated twelve students and enrolled twenty-two for the new Bible school term. They had some fruitful meetings (including two tent meetings) in Orissa, the least reached place in India with the gospel. Two more house churches have been started in Gurupalli and Bedan after working in those areas for four years. The church members in a fishermen colony have been enduring bad weather making it impossible for them to go fishing, resulting in hardships.

Radio broadcasts are still available through Podcasts and through the Audio tab of the website. A listener recently wrote, “This morning I have listened to A Fisherman’s 5-Minute Look at the Book, and heard the one on Fish Tales. It was a blessing.” A proposed new station in Borongan Samar, Philippines, is experiencing problems with the franchise necessary to broadcast. Pray that can be resolved.

Bro. Henry Vick and co-workers continue to weekly visit the Escambia County Jail in Pensacola, Florida. Many inmates are completing the discipleship series.

Thank you for being a friend to FOMMI in your faithful prayer and financial support.

Sincerely,
Lenora Mund
